Three weeks ago we (Perry, Sherry, Tony, Bernie, and I) packed the truck and started the drive down to Rogers, Arkansas to visit Kaye, Ryan, and Jack. On this trip Tony and Kaye ran the Bentonville half marathon. . It was Kaye's 5th and Tony's first. Ryan did a GREAT job of navigating us around the race route and we managed to see them run by at 4 different stages in race. They both finished just over 2 hours!
When we arrive on Friday we went out for a nice dinner to celebrate Sherry's birthday and then we visited Crystal Bridges, a new American Art Museum in the area. It was a really impressive site, set back in the woods, beautifully landscaped, and surrounded by water. The museum was commissioned by Alice Walton, part of the Walton family who founded Wal-Mart in Bentonville. We saw some Charles Wilson Peale, Norman Rockwell, and Grant Wood. I realized how unfamiliar I am with American artists, so it was a good learning experience too!
After the race on Saturday we went over to Perry's brother's house. Mark, Bobbi, and their daughter Sara grilled up some burgers and we had a really nice 70 degree evening relaxing on their back porch. The girls ended the night playing cards and the boys took the kids back home to bed :)
Here are some of my favorite moments from the weekend:
Arriving at Crystal Bridges
Bernie LOVES Art!
This was my favorite piece... Looking at it from a distance it is the Last Supper upside down and backwards and then you look at in through the "crystal ball" (?) and see it as it should be. But the best part is that the entire piece is made out of spools of thread! Whoa.
Pretty realistic, eh?
Brother and Sister right after the 13 mile race! Way to go guys!
Jack is such an amazing little guy! I hope Bernie is as delightful when she is 2 years old :)
Tony, Perry, and Mark. Mark and Bobbi have an entire living room set up on their back patio, complete with a TV!
Here we are in the truck, headed back to Iowa!! Thanks Kaye and Ryan for hosting such a great weekend!
